What are home warranties?

Home warranties are service contracts that provide homeowners with repair or replacement of covered major systems and appliances that break down with normal wear and tear.*

Do I need a home warranty if I have homeowners insurance?

Yes. While your homeowners insurance protects your home, it is only a hazard coverage. Items damaged due to natural disasters, fire, and other major incidents will be covered under your homeowners insurance. Insurance does not cover items that break down due to normal wear and tear, but a home warranty does.

I have an older home, or my systems and appliances are aged. Will my home be covered?

Choice Home Warranty provides coverage for older homes, as well as systems and appliances that are aged. As long as items are in good working order and properly maintained,* your systems and appliances will be covered.

Do I have to be a new homeowner to buy a home warranty plan?

No, you do not have to be in a real estate transaction to buy a home warranty plan. You can enroll in a home warranty service contract at any time during home ownership.

Under what situations does Choice Home Warranty deny warranty claims?

Choice Home Warranty covers systems and appliances that are properly maintained and in good working order at the start of the service contract.* Any items that have known or unknown pre-existing conditions, or those that have been poorly maintained, misused, or abused, will not be covered.

Should I get a home inspection?

A home inspection is not required before starting a service contract with Choice Home Warranty, but it is highly recommended. With a home inspection, you will find out which items are in good working order, and which ones need service or repair.

What is my coverage period?

With Choice Home Warranty, your coverage period starts 30 days after your enrollment and payment of contract fees, and will continue for 365 days from your start date. If you have had home warranty coverage through another carrier and can show that there is no lapse in coverage, Choice Home Warranty will start your new coverage at the expiration of your old policy.

What if Choice Home Warranty can't find a replacement unit?

Choice Home Warranty will attempt to repair or replace covered items. If a replacement is not available, Choice Home Warranty will offer the homeowner a cash payment for the amount of CHW's replacement cost, allowing the homeowner to buy a new covered item independently. This amount may be less than retail.

How can I get service?

If a covered item needs service, simply call Choice Home Warranty's claims department at 1-888-531-5403. You can call 24/7/365, or submit a claim online.

Do I have to pay a service call fee?

Yes, each repair or replacement is subject to a service call fee, paid directly to the technician that comes to your home. Each service call fee is $60, regardless of the actual cost of your repair or replacement.

Is my home warranty renewable?

Yes, you may renew your home warranty plan annually. When renewing, you will be given the prevailing rate and renewal terms.
